About

why we did it

It's simple really: People have a bounty of one–stop options on the Internet to find out about recently released and upcoming movies and music, but book lovers generally get the short shrift. We decided to end that by building an all–in–one online gateway for readers to find out about new and upcoming books from multiple publishers in all genres. At the same time, Early Ink is a place for authors and publishers to advertise, promote and offer previews of their upcoming titles to millions of readers, librarians and booksellers around the world.

what you'll find

We want Early Ink to be your first stop for the scoop on your next book to buy or borrow. On every page you'll find all the details on titles about to hit stores—from price and cover art right down to publisher and ISBN. Plus, you'll get a list of themes, a brief summary and a full excerpt direct from the book to whet your appetite.

But we didn't stop there. Books, like movies, music and TV, are best when shared with others. Early Ink lets you do just that. With no more than a mouse click you can print or e–mail excerpts or even download them to take with you on your laptop or other mobile device. Help build buzz for your favorite author's next book by leaving comments or by linking its preview to your choice of social bookmarking Web sites.

In response to the growing popularity of new media book promotions, we've also put together our Early A/V section to connect you with the best audio and video clips related to new and upcoming books. You'll be able to easily find and enjoy them right here at Early Ink.

Last, but not least, our Media Buzz blog will keep you informed of what books are being covered by national TV and radio programs and whenever possible, supply you with a direct link to view the media clip or read the transcript online.

who we are

Mollie Smith
Mollie is the creative and organizational force behind Early Ink. In early 2007, she started building the site after becoming frustrated by the limited options for readers to find out about upcoming books. She soon realized that with book reviews rapidly being cut from major newspapers around the country, authors and publishers were running out of ways to get the word out about new titles. Early Ink is her solution to both, so with the help of a few select friends (and fellow book lovers) she created and launched the first phase of Early Ink.

Dan O'Brien
Dan is the site's backend programmer managing all things PHP, MySQL and XML. In his former life he technically produced the magazine Web sites of Maxim, LAPTOP and Computer Shopper. Today, his primary focus is on a new career in photography—check out his work at DanOBrienGallery.com

Sarah Wendell
Sarah is our humble advertising organatrix. You buy the ad, and she makes it appear magically through the wonder of the Internet. Sarah's background is in anything having to do with words or letters. She taught herself HTML back in the dark ages of the Internet, and has gone on to create many a Web site of great scandal. OK, just one: in her other life, she's known as Smart Bitch Sarah of Smart Bitches, Trashy Books.

Josh Goldman
A freelance writer/editor, Josh writes and cleans up copy for the site not provided by authors and publishers. He currently writes for a number of online and print publications including Men's Fitness, Computer Shopper, CrunchGear.com and USA Weekend—read some of his clips at SuperBoxMonkey.

Mara Lubell
Mara gives us style by creating and polishing all things visual. She is a full–time freelance graphic designer with a portfolio that includes production and design work for advertising, PR materials, tradeshow design, packaging, brand photography, online media and Web design. Her client list includes New York & Co., Goody, The Gap and CNN.com—view out her portfolio at Works-Progess.

Les Shu
Les is our Flickr guru, currently developing our Hot Spot photo gallery: a user–generated photo log of what people are reading whether they're at the beach, on the train or bus, in the park—anywhere. Former and current employers include Men's Journal, Best Life, Computer Shopper and Wired magazines.

Cameron Scott
Cameron is the researcher and writer behind our Media Buzz blog that reports on and links to national media coverage for new and upcoming books. He's currently an English major at Penn State and wants to do "something" in publishing when he graduates.
